Dragon. 2016. Steel 8ft.
Dragon is a kinetic sculpture in which the wings move up and down. I wanted the wings to move more believably, instead of a flat up and down motion with the wings straight out. I researched Dukno Yoon’s mechanical jewelry, winged bracelet, with a wing movement that curls up and down as the wing moves in a dynamic and realistic way. After many tries, I learned that if I broke the wing into segments and hinged them together, I would achieve an elegant curl as the wings moved up and down.
