Colby's Zoo of Legendary Creatures uses nostalgic forms of animation, such as zoetropes and kinetic sculptures, as artistic vehicles to bring cryptozoological creatures to life. My goals in doing this are to bring animation into the physical realm of the viewer without the need for film or a digital platform. I wish to educate and inform my audience about the field of Cryptozoology in order to help them better understand what it is. I am building large sculptural zoetropes (a form of kinetic sculpture) and creating a living mural in order to transform the gallery space into Colby's Zoo of Legendary Creatures. By creating a zoological park as a means through which to engage people and bring them into a physical environment that is animated and sculptural, I am providing an immersive visual experience for the viewer.
